Clans of North Texas have been around for over 25 years
promoting the culture, heritage, music, and dance of the people of
Scotland. So, do you have to be Scottish to join? NO! You're welcome if
you like Scotland, bagpipes, highland dancing, singing, shortbread,
clan and tartan research, or just plain fun! And who belongs? All ages;
kids, teenagers, young adults, adults, seniors, singles, married,
widowed, whatever! Monthly meetings include entertaining and
educational programs on subjects of Scottish interest. In addition to
occasional Pot Luck Dinners at meetings, the annual St. Andrews Dinner
and the Robert Bums Night highlight the Scottish social calendar. The
SCNT participates in a number of local events, including the North
Texas Irish Festival, the Texas Scottish Festival, and the Celtic
Heritage Festival, which it helps sponsor. For more, visit www.scottclans.org or write P.O. Box 122361, Arlington, TX 76012-8361.

Ceilidh Country Dancers of
Fort Worth - Scottish country dancing is a form of social dancing that came into its
present form in 17th century Scotland. The dancing stresses formations
(both lengthwise and square sets), progressions (allowing each couple
to dance as the center of attention), and dance step technique.
Scottish country dances are danced to reels, jigs, hompipes, and
waltzes, as well as the uniquely Scottish strathspeys. Scottish country
dancing has many of the same figures as American square dancing and is
said to be a forerunner of the same. In Scottish country dancing there
is no caller. Certain steps are used for various types of dances. Dance
groups are growing and can be found worldwide. Everyone is welcome to
come and join the fun. Classes meet most Friday nights (September
through May) from 8:00-10:00 pm, at the Riglea Presbyterian Church,
6201 Camp Bowie, in Fort Worth. Lessons are open to anyone. The Ceilidh
Country Dancers welcome those who have never danced before, and you
don't even have to be Scottish to enjoy a good dance around the floor!
